unit 8 blog

Participating in all the different exercises I found the relaxation and the visualization exercises more beneficial then the others. When going through the motions of the relaxation exercise I found myself intrigued on how this exercise was going to encourage myself to fully relax as the man was directing me into the relaxation journey. I found that this exercises could be implemented into my life to foster my mental fitness if reached upon feeling stressed, powerless, or depressed at some point. I found by me participating in my daily exercise regiment helps me be more relaxed throughout my daily obligations I have which enhances my mental fitness to be more at ease, less controversial with others, and happier with myself. The visualization was my next favorite exercise I liked. This exercise encourage my thoughts into a more positive way of thinking in terms of visualizing what I wanted to do or accomplish first which inspired me to want be more willing to go after what I visualized instead of attempting but not having much of  a greater outcome due to not seeing everything through first. This practice can be implemented into my life to foster my mental fitness by visualizing things first before committing which will give me more encouragement, confidence, and desire to achieve whatever I put my mind to.

  1. I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but I also enjoyed the visualization exercises. I think it comes down to the fact that it is easier for me to focus on a thought rather than try to let that thought pass without grasping. I actually spend quite a bit of my day unintentionally visualizing so it works out. Thank you for sharing Valentino.

  2. It is quite amazing what positive words, reinforced everyday can do to our mind and the way we approach life. I knew it was good for me to take a time-out and clear the mind, that it would keep me from losing my mind, but the exercise offered way more than what I've had envisioned. I hope that your mental fitness will continue to strengthen and that you will continue to reap its benefits throughout your life. Good luck and thank you for sharing!

  3. Valentino,

Like you I rather enjoyed and got a great deal from the relaxation and meditation exercises. Actually when I think about it the only exercises I felt that I didn't benefit from was the Loving-Kindness one. I guess the idea of focusing on a loved-ones suffering was to hard to get past. I have attempted that exercise several times to no avail. Good luck in all you strive to do and accomplish.

  4. Hello,
I'm glad that you got so much from those two exercises. It seems like you learned a lot from them and that you really are going to use them to better yourself. I think if we really use the things that we learned in this class, we can all be better people, and hopefully teach others the lessons so they can be better too. Keep up the good work!

  5. Hi Valentino,

I also thought the subtle mind exercises were very beneficial too. It seems so simple, but these exercises taught me how to relax my mind and my muscles. It was so nice having the feeling of more energy and rejuvenation when it was over.

The visualization exercises were a little harder for me to understand. When we were asked to visualize others suffering and replaces their suffering with peace and happiness. I think everyone is different and suffers in their own way and some take suffering into a healthy learning experience. I am glad you found a way to apply the visualization exercises to your day-to-day activities. I didn’t think of applying it to thinking of what you want to are will do before you do it. Great thinking!
